United Heritage Property and Casualty Company (formerly Idaho Mutual Insurance Company) began operations on April 20, 1908. The first board meeting was held in a packing house near Roswell, Idaho, in Canyon County. By the second meeting the Company had built its surplus to $21.92!
In August, 1992, the Company converted from a county mutual to a domestic mutual offering property and casualty insurance in all areas of the state of Idaho. In addition to Idaho, the Company offers insurance in Oregon and Utah.
The company became affiliated with United Heritage Mutual Life Insurance Company and converted to a stock company on November 7, 2000 (see related news article).
United Heritage Property and Casualty Company has paid over $40,000,000 in claims payments to policyholders and has $4,012,800,000 of insurance in force. Gem State Insurance Company was originally organized by the Idaho State Grange in 1910 to provide property insurance to the members of that organization. The name at that time was Grange Mutual Cooperative Fire Insurance Company, but the name was changed to the current name recently to reflect expansion into other insurance areas. Insurance coverage for eligible property is not restricted to Grange members.
The company operates only in the state of Idaho, marketing homeowners, mobilehomeowners, rental dwelling, and farmowners insurance coverages through independent insurance agencies throughout the state. The company’s small size and concentrated operating territory allow high quality service to policyholders at a very competitive price, with rapid turn around time on policy service and claims.
